A Houston postal worker, Cornelius Davis, was arrested in early December following a detailed undercover operation by Webster police. The operation was part of an ongoing fraud and theft investigation, and Davis was charged with tampering with a government document after he attempted to make a purchase using a stolen credit card at an Academy Sports store.
The incident occurred in a Webster parking lot, where Davis, who had placed an online order, was awaiting curbside pickup. The store had raised suspicions about the legitimacy of his credit card and contacted Webster police. An undercover officer, posing as an Academy employee, delivered the items to Davis. Upon receiving the items, Davis allegedly presented a fake ID, leading to his arrest.
However, this arrest was just one part of a larger investigation. Authorities executed search warrants at both Davis’ apartment and a storage unit, where they discovered several items purchased with stolen cards, including a large go-kart. Investigators also found evidence on Davis’ phone, indicating that he had made at least 40 fraudulent transactions between November and December 2024, with stolen credit cards.
Although Davis has been released on bond, he is expected to face additional charges. The US Postal Service Office of Inspector General is continuing to investigate, and more details are expected to emerge soon.
