A domestic worker has been arrested in Trichy for allegedly stealing a gold chain weighing six sovereigns and Rs1 lakh in cash from a residence in Pon Nagar.
The accused, Shayin alias Banu, aged 43, hails from Asthampatti in Salem. She was employed through a domestic help agency at the residence of Imran Ahamed, 28, who lives with his father.
According to police, Banu took a bag containing the gold and cash on Thursday and disappeared. Imran Ahamed lodged a complaint with the Sessions Court Police, who promptly launched an investigation.
Following inquiries and evidence gathering, Banu was arrested on Saturday. The stolen items have not yet been recovered, and further investigation is ongoing.
