HORACE, N.D. — A 21-year-old man from Horace has been charged with manslaughter and three other felonies following the death of his girlfriend at a local apartment complex.
Derrick Lobbo faces charges including manslaughter, reckless endangerment with a firearm, aggravated assault, and child neglect, according to court documents filed November 10.
Authorities responded to a disturbance call at the apartment building on November 6 shortly after 8:00 a.m., where 23-year-old Sakeena Khaadi was found unresponsive with a gunshot wound in the hallway.
Court records state Lobbo called 911, reporting his girlfriend had been injured. Multiple callers described a male, later identified as Lobbo, with blood on his hands and stated, “the gun went off and hit the female in the chest.”
Deputies found a 9mm handgun, a magazine, and a shell casing inside the apartment. Blood droplets were located on the couch and floor. The medical examiner determined Khaadi died from a gunshot wound to the chest, which first entered her left forearm.
Investigators noted that Lobbo’s 2-year-old child was left alone in the apartment near the firearm, along with alcohol and marijuana. The child was unharmed.
Lobbo was previously held on charges including reckless endangerment involving a dangerous weapon and child neglect. He is scheduled for arraignment at 1:30 p.m. Monday in Cass County Court.
