Pattaya, Thailand — A Hong Kong man wanted for a drug-related murder was arrested in Pattaya, Thailand, on Monday, Thai authorities confirmed.
The suspect, identified only as Truong, 25, was arrested at a rented house in the beach town of Chon Buri, where he had been staying with a Thai girlfriend, according to Pol Lt Gen Panumas Boonyaluck, deputy commissioner of the Immigration Bureau.
Truong is wanted by Hong Kong police for his involvement in the assault of a compatriot, who later died in the Sha Tin district on March 16. Authorities say the altercation stemmed from a conflict over an illicit drug deal. Hong Kong police have confirmed that Truong was one of the two individuals involved in the murder.
After the killing, Truong fled Hong Kong and traveled to Thailand. Following an arrest warrant issued by Hong Kong authorities, the Royal Thai Police worked with local immigration officers to track Truong down.
Immigration police located Truong at his rented residence in Pattaya and arrested him without incident. He is now facing deportation back to Hong Kong, where he will face charges related to the murder.
