Nottinghamshire Police have launched a homicide investigation after the body of a 52-year-old man was discovered at a farm in Langford, near Newark. Officers were called to an outbuilding off the A1133 shortly after 10:15 GMT on Saturday.
Detectives stated that the death is believed to be linked to the disappearance of 82-year-old Brian Wright, who was reported missing from the area on Thursday. Mr. Wright remains missing, but intelligence received by police suggests he may be deceased.
At this stage, the death is not being treated as suspicious, and investigators say all parties involved are known to each other. The force emphasized that there is no wider threat to the public.
Nottinghamshire Police have also referred themselves to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) due to prior contact with the family. Search teams have been deployed in the area, and updates will be provided as the investigation continues.
Detective Chief Inspector Ruby Burrow said: “An investigation into the circumstances surrounding this death is ongoing. We would also ask the public to respect the privacy of family members at what is an incredibly difficult time for them. They are being supported by specially trained officers.”
