DEVILS LAKE, N.D. (Valley News Live) – A homeless man is facing multiple charges following a violent incident at the Newport Apartments in Devils Lake on the afternoon of June 9. Authorities say Jeremy “Jae” Buckles unlawfully entered a secure apartment building, physically assaulted multiple individuals, and caused property damage before being arrested.

According to court documents, a woman reported that Buckles followed her into the locked building and into her unit, where he began assaulting a man by punching him repeatedly in the face. Fearing for her safety and that of her 4-year-old daughter, the woman fled into a neighboring apartment and locked the door.

Buckles allegedly forced his way into the second apartment, damaging the door frame, lock, and trim in the process. Once inside, he reportedly threatened the tenant with bodily harm and used a hard backpack to beat the man, causing visible injuries to the forehead and eye area.

Police later located Buckles near the 500 block of 5th Street East. He was in possession of the described backpack and drug paraphernalia, according to the arrest report.

Buckles has been charged with:

Burglary (threatening or inflicting serious injury)

Possession of drug paraphernalia

Possession of marijuana paraphernalia

In addition, long-form charges for simple assault and two counts of disorderly conduct are expected to be filed with the District Court.

This is an ongoing investigation.
