Hit-and-Run Tragedy: Ankit Saw & Krishna Chandra Arrested

Two Held in Fatal Patrapada Accident Claiming Mother, Daughter

Bhubaneswar: A tragic hit-and-run incident near V2, Patrapada on August 9, 2025, claimed the lives of a mother and her 8-year-old daughter, leaving a 2-year-old boy critically injured. The Khandagiri Police registered the case (No. 552/2025) under sections 106(1)/125(a)/125(b) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, later amended to include Section 105 BNS.

According to the complaint by Manas Raul, the family was crossing the road when a speeding Thar vehicle, travelling from Bhubaneswar to Khordha, struck them. The young girl died instantly, while the mother and toddler were rushed to AIIMS Bhubaneswar. The mother succumbed to her injuries two days later on August 11.

The Thar dragged the victims before fleeing the scene. Investigation revealed that five individuals were involved, travelling in a Thar and a Scorpio. Based on evidence and leads, police arrested Ankit Saw and Krishna Chandra Pradhan on August 15, 2025, for their involvement and for aiding the escape of the other suspects. Both have been forwarded to court.

The remaining suspects fled to West Bengal, Haryana, and Delhi. Following a tip-off, Khandagiri Police later apprehended Sohamraj Tripathy alias Lipun (27) and Sanu alias Rohan Ranjan Rout (25) from Delhi. The Scorpio vehicle used in the incident was also seized. Both confessed to their roles during interrogation.

The accused, Sanu, son of Niranjan Rout of Patia, Bhubaneswar, and Lipun, son of Lingaraj Tripathy of Srirampur, Jagatsinghpur, are currently in custody. The police investigation continues to ensure all involved are held accountable and justice is delivered for the victims.
