Two days after 25-year-old Sakshi was found murdered at her rented flat in Kotla Mubarakpur, South Delhi, police arrested her boyfriend, Himanshu, from Hansi in Haryana for allegedly killing her in a fit of rage and jealousy.
According to the police, Sakshi had been living alone and working at a call centre. On October 7, her boyfriend Himanshu was staying with her. The next day, while under the influence of alcohol, he noticed a photo of another man on her phone. When he confronted her, Sakshi explained it was her ex-boyfriend’s picture.
Enraged by her continued communication with that number and multiple calls, Himanshu stabbed her in the neck, leading to her death. During the struggle, Sakshi tried to fight back and managed to injure Himanshu in the leg before succumbing to her injuries.
After the murder, Himanshu allegedly ransacked the room to make it look like a robbery and took Sakshi’s phone to destroy evidence. He then fled the scene.
Police reviewed CCTV footage, which showed a man limping down the stairs of Sakshi’s building. Further surveillance revealed he had fled toward Outer Delhi before escaping to Rohtak and then hiding in Hansi, Haryana, where he was finally caught.
Sakshi, originally from Sikkim, had lost both her parents—her mother during COVID-19, and her father the following year. She had no close family in Delhi.
She met Himanshu two months ago at a hotel in Jodhpur, Rajasthan, and they began a relationship. However, Himanshu’s behavior became possessive and violent over time.
Himanshu, a school dropout, was wanted in 14 previous cases including theft, house-breaking, and possession of stolen property. His Instagram profile glorified gangsters and weapons, with references to IPC Section 302 (murder).
He had been on the run in Jodhpur even before meeting Sakshi and kept visiting her in Delhi during that time.
