A man named Himanshu Agarwal was arrested after attempting to bribe officials with Rs 1 crore following a large-scale raid on his shops and warehouses in Agra district. The raid was conducted by a joint team comprising the UP Special Task Force (STF), Kanpur, and the Basti drug department.
During the operation on Friday, officials seized medicines worth over Rs 3 crore from Agarwal’s medical shops and warehouses, which were subsequently sealed. The next day, Agarwal arrived at his shop carrying three bags filled with 200 bundles of Rs 500 notes in an alleged attempt to bribe drug department officials.
Caught red-handed, Agarwal was taken into custody. Authorities also informed the income tax and vigilance departments. Agarwal was arrested under sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
The drug department confirmed that samples of 15 medicines have been sent for lab testing to verify their authenticity. STF Inspector Yatendra Sharma stated, “Strong indications suggested a module operating from Agra was distributing counterfeit medicines. Our operation, led by ADG Amitabh Yash, is ongoing.”
