Henderson Man Arrested for Posing as Bank Employee in Debit Card Scam

Emmanuel Almonor Accused of Theft and Financial Fraud

LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – Police in the Las Vegas Valley have arrested a 32-year-old man for allegedly impersonating a bank employee and using other people’s debit cards for unauthorized charges and money transfers.

Emmanuel Almonor is accused of theft, causing financial loss, and obtaining money through fraudulent means, according to the Henderson Police Department. The incidents reportedly occurred last week, between Thursday and Friday.

The investigation began after multiple reports of phone number spoofing. This tactic involves deliberately falsifying a phone number to make it appear as though the incoming call is coming from a trusted business or individual.

Authorities say Almonor contacted several victims by spoofing their caller ID, claiming their debit cards had been fraudulently used or compromised. He presented himself as a representative from a financial institution. Almonor would then arrive at the victims’ homes, posing as a bank employee, and request their debit cards for “destruction.” Instead of destroying the cards, he allegedly used them for unauthorized charges and money transfers.

The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department has noted that residents in the Summerlin area have also been targeted in this scam.

Almonor faces the following charges:

  • 1 count of Obtaining/Using Another Personal ID, Causing Financial Loss of $3,000 or more
  • 1 count of Theft between $5,000 and $25,000
  • 1 count of Obtaining Money/Property/Labor Falsely between $5,000 and $25,000
  • 1 count of Attempting to Obtain Money/Property/Labor Falsely between $5,000 and $25,000

“This is an open and ongoing investigation,” police stated, adding that no further details will be provided at this time.

Authorities urge anyone with information about this case or anyone who may have fallen victim to the scam to contact the Henderson Police Department at 702-267-4911, dial 3-1-1, or report anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 702-385-5555 or through their website. Tips leading directly to a felony arrest or indictment may result in a cash reward.
