Tomeka Barton, 46, of Hempstead, was arrested on Monday afternoon for attempting to open a bank account and withdraw funds using fraudulent identification, according to police.

Barton entered Flagstar Bank on Hempstead Turnpike in East Meadow while wearing a mask to conceal her identity. Bank employees recognized her as someone who had previously tried to open accounts at another branch just the week before. They quickly alerted authorities, and Barton was arrested without incident.

Barton now faces multiple charges, including two counts of second-degree criminal possession of a forged instrument, first-degree identity theft, second-degree attempted grand larceny, second-degree criminal impersonation, third-degree unlawful possession of personal identification, and violating the Mask Transparency Act.

Barton was scheduled to be arraigned on Tuesday.
