A 32-year-old man from Hempstead was arrested on Monday, April 28, 2025, after assaulting a motorcyclist in New Cassel. The incident occurred around 4:50 p.m. at the intersection of Prospect Avenue and Grand Street. According to detectives, the victim, a 23-year-old male, was stopped at a traffic light when an unknown individual approached him on foot. The subject knocked the victim off his 1995 Harley Davidson motorcycle and then struck him multiple times, causing substantial pain. The attacker proceeded to steal the victim’s cell phone before fleeing the scene.
Officers quickly responded to the incident, and within a short period, the defendant, identified as Dester Ramirez Hernandez, 32, of 369 Jackson Street, was located and arrested without incident. Both the victim and Hernandez were transported to a nearby hospital for medical evaluation and treatment.
Hernandez has been charged with Robbery in the 3rd Degree, Grand Larceny in the 4th Degree, and Assault in the 3rd Degree. He is set to be arraigned on Tuesday, April 29, 2025, at the First District Court in Hempstead.
