In a major drug bust near the India-Nepal border, a joint team of Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) and Uttar Pradesh Police apprehended Hemant Singh, a resident of Ghazipur district, with 18 kilograms of charas. The seized narcotics are estimated to be worth around Rs 9 crore in the international market.
The arrest occurred at Nautanwa during routine vehicle checking. Singh was traveling in a Swift car when authorities intercepted him. Police recovered 38 packets of charas from the vehicle. An accomplice reportedly escaped, and efforts are ongoing to trace the individual.
Authorities believe Hemant Singh is a courier for a larger drug smuggling network. Investigations are underway to identify the network’s handlers, supply routes, and other operatives involved. The case has been registered, and Singh is in police custody.
DCP Uttar Pradesh emphasized that the joint operation reflects ongoing efforts to curb cross-border narcotics trafficking and dismantle organized networks.
