WINNIPEG, Manitoba — Damion Ryan, 41, a full-patch member of the Hells Angels and Wolfpack gang, is currently on trial following his arrest in the RCMP’s Project Divergent investigation. The multi-year operation led to the seizure of over $70 million worth of illicit drugs and targeted a sprawling criminal network with ties across Canada and abroad.
Court documents revealed testimony from an informant, known as Agent 66, who detailed his cooperation with the RCMP. Agent 66, motivated by anger after having drug money stolen, worked with police while receiving over $900,000 for his assistance. He provided recordings, notes, and messages from encrypted apps like Signal and Whisper, which were pivotal to the investigation.
Ryan, described by the RCMP as one of the country’s most prolific organized crime figures, faces charges related to drug trafficking. The trial, prosecuted by Crown attorneys Kate Henley and Janna Hyman and overseen by Justice Chris W. Martin, is expected to last six weeks.
Ryan currently has no legal counsel and is being assisted by a friend of the court, lawyer Amanda Sansregret. The ongoing case highlights the RCMP’s continued efforts to dismantle large-scale organized crime networks in Canada.
