Hector Moreno Luzardo and Gelis Escalona Martinez Arrested for Drug Trafficking

Venezuelan nationals caught with meth and cocaine in Gwinnett County

by Amelia Crawford

Gwinnett County authorities arrested two Venezuelan nationals, Hector Moreno Luzardo, 35, and Gelis Escalona Martinez, 41, on July 2 following a multi-agency investigation into methamphetamine and cocaine trafficking.

The investigation, which began in March, linked Luzardo to the sale of cocaine. After gathering sufficient evidence, agents executed a search warrant at a Gwinnett County residence.

During the raid, officials seized about one kilogram of methamphetamine, over half a kilogram of cocaine, and an undisclosed amount of cash. Martinez, believed to be involved in the narcotics sales, was also inside the residence when the search took place.

The operation was a coordinated effort involving the Appalachian Regional Drug Enforcement Office (ARDEO), Gwinnett County Sheriff’s Office, FBI North Georgia Major Offenders Task Force, and the DEA Atlanta-Carolinas High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area.

Both Luzardo and Martinez were booked into Gwinnett County Jail, and the investigation remains ongoing.
