Two 19-year-old men have been charged with open murder in connection with the fatal shooting of an Inkster man whose body was discovered near a popular recreation area in Oakland County.
Dshaun Omar Hatton-Street, of Romulus, and Stephan Larryl Shaw, of Taylor, are accused in the death of 19-year-old Andre Sontay Avant Jr.
Avant’s body was found on Feb. 16 by a visitor at the Proud Lake Recreation Area in Commerce Township. The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office said neither the suspects nor the victim had any known ties to the area.
Sheriff Michael Bouchard said investigators moved quickly after the discovery of Avant’s body. Within just over a week, authorities gathered enough evidence to make arrests. He added that Avant was acquainted with the two men now charged in his death.
A third individual who was initially taken into custody has since been released.
Hatton-Street and Shaw, both of whom reportedly have no prior criminal histories, were denied bond and remain lodged in the Oakland County Jail.
They are scheduled to return to court March 11 for a probable cause conference.
