In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, the Bhubaneswar Excise Department apprehended three youths involved in the sale of brown sugar across the city on Tuesday.
The accused have been identified as Hasim Khan, Rabi Barik, and Subrat Kumar Parida, who were intercepted while riding a black motorcycle during a raid in Saheed Nagar, attempting to sell the narcotic substance.
During the operation, authorities seized 463 grams of brown sugar, valued at approximately Rs 45 Lakh in the illegal market. The trio reportedly used narrow lanes and crowded residential areas to discreetly deliver small packets of the drug to buyers across the city. Their motorcycle, frequently used in the trafficking operation, was also confiscated.
A police official stated, “After analyzing previous cases, we tracked their activities and intercepted a deal at Satya Nagar flyover. The Excise Department successfully seized 463 grams of brown sugar and arrested the suspects.”
The arrested individuals were produced in court following their detention. Investigators are continuing their probe to trace the source of the contraband and identify any larger trafficking network involved in the distribution of brown sugar across Bhubaneswar.
