In a major breakthrough, the Howrah City Police arrested the two main accused in the murder of promoter Shafiq Khan from Delhi on Thursday.
The suspects, Harun Khan and Rohit Hossain, were apprehended in the Jama Masjid area of the national capital. They are being brought back to Kolkata on transit remand.
Investigation Details
The arrests were confirmed by ACP Shaik Habeebulla of North-I Division, Howrah City Police. The duo will be handed over to the West Bengal CID, which is conducting the ongoing investigation.
According to officials, the accused fled Kolkata after the murder on February 25 and moved to Bihar before reaching Delhi. Police used CCTV footage and intelligence from multiple sources to track and arrest them.
Firearm Recovery
Earlier, on February 28, officers recovered two firearms and two bullets from a water tank in the house of Mohammad Wakil alias Munna in Boubazar, Kolkata, where the accused had taken shelter.
Joint efforts of Howrah City Police and Golabari Police Station had already led to the arrest of Mohammad Bilal and Dildar Hossain for indirect involvement in the case.
Current Status
The main accused, Harun Khan and Rohit Hossain, are now in custody and further investigation is ongoing under the supervision of the CID to identify other possible accomplices and motives.
