ADAMS COUNTY, Pa. — Harry Hartman, 54, the former publisher of a Gettysburg-area newspaper, has been charged with mail theft, officials announced Thursday.
Hartman is accused of stealing packages from the Gettysburg Post Office between May 2023 and August 2024. The stolen packages were intended for Gettysburg College, Print Center & Post Office, according to the Department of Justice.
The Gettysburg Times confirmed that Hartman was suspended from his publisher position in August 2024 and subsequently terminated after he informed the paper’s parent company of the impending charges.
The charges follow an investigation conducted by the United States Postal Inspection Service and the United States Postal Service Office of Inspector General.
If convicted, Hartman faces a prison sentence of up to five years, supervised release, fines, and a special assessment, the DOJ said.
