The Vigilance Bureau on Sunday evening announced the arrest of Harpreet Singh Gulati, a liquor trader and close aide of Akali leader Bikram Singh Majithia.
A bureau spokesperson said the arrest is part of the ongoing investigation into drug money laundering allegations against Majithia, who is currently in jail. The probe indicates that Majithia acquired properties in Shimla and Delhi through Gulati, transferring funds via liquor firms Akash Spriti, UV Enterprises, and AD Enterprises.
“Around Rs 10 crore in transactions linked to these companies has surfaced so far. The probe suggests that these transactions were non-commercial, lacking legitimate business rationale, and routed through unsecured fund transfers or layered advances,” the spokesperson added.
Gulati was arrested in Mohali and sent to a six-day police remand by a local court. The bureau had registered a disproportionate assets case against Majithia on June 25, alleging that he amassed assets worth approximately Rs 540 crore through drug money laundering and benami transactions.
