Ferozepur police arrested Harmesh Singh, also known as Ramesh (25), from Basti Machhia for smuggling 9.4 kilograms of heroin and Rs2.10 lakh in drug money in Zira. The arrest followed intelligence-based operations, said Ferozepur range Deputy Inspector General Harmanbir Singh Gill.

While Harmesh Singh was caught, his accomplice Ajay (28) remains at large. The motorcycle used for transporting the narcotics has also been seized.

Authorities revealed that the heroin was smuggled from across the Pakistan border with assistance from local handlers working closely with cross-border trafficking networks. Investigations are ongoing to uncover both upstream suppliers and downstream distributors to dismantle the entire trafficking chain.

DIG Gill added that traffickers had previously relied on drones to transport large drug consignments, but after a recent drone interception, smugglers have shifted to manually moving smaller quantities to evade detection.
