In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking, Ropar Police have arrested three individuals involved in smuggling narcotics, seizing 181 kg of poppy husk and 240 psychotropic drug pills in two separate incidents.
Ropar SSP Guljeet Singh Khurana stated that the arrests were part of an intensified campaign against drug addiction across the district. During a checkpoint operation in Kiratpur Sahib, police apprehended Hardeep Singh, a resident of Gondpur Jai Chand, Una, and Abhishek, from Amroh village, Talwara. Both were caught transporting large quantities of poppy husk.
In a separate raid, Babandeep Singh, hailing from Ramgarh Manda village in Morinda, was arrested after authorities recovered 240 psychotropic drug pills from his possession.
All three individuals have been booked under the NDPS Act, and investigations are ongoing.
As part of the ongoing ‘Project Sampark’, the police are also working to educate the public about the dangers of drug abuse and to encourage community support in eradicating drug-related activities.
