EDEN, NC — Two individuals, Hannah Leighann Sheckells, 19, and Corey Hunter Latour, 22, have been charged with felony child abuse following an investigation initiated by the Eden Police Department. The probe began after a child was admitted to Annie Penn Hospital for medical care on Sunday, September 7, 2025.
Hospital staff alerted police about the child’s condition, prompting detectives to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident.
Sheckells was taken to the Rockingham County Magistrate’s Office, where she was issued a $50,000 secured bond. Latour later surrendered to authorities at the same magistrate’s office and was given a $200,000 secured bond. Both are scheduled to appear in Wentworth District Court on September 22, 2025, at 9:00 a.m.
To protect the child’s identity and privacy, the Eden Police Department has withheld additional details due to the victim’s age.
