Charkop police arrested three individuals on Monday for the murder of 70-year-old businessman Mohammad Yunus Saiyyad from Kandivali, who was killed on Sunday.
Among the accused is Saiyyad’s younger son, 41-year-old Hamid Ayu Saiyyad, who allegedly orchestrated the murder due to disputes over property and investments. Sources revealed the deceased refused to transfer his property to Hamid, prompting the son to plot the killing. Hamid and his business partner, 40-year-old Shanu Chaudhary, reportedly hired two assassins to carry out the attack.
One of the hired killers, 27-year-old Mohammad Islam, was arrested from Navi Mumbai. Police stated that Hamid and Shanu paid Islam and his accomplice Rs 6.5 lakh for the murder. The dispute arose when Hamid and Chaudhary demanded repayment of investments made in a glass factory operated by the deceased. Chaudhary alone had invested nearly Rs 1 crore.
The deceased owned a glass staffing firm, ‘Sanvarman Durga Dutt,’ located at Kandivali Industrial Estate. The factory had been closed for a month, with Saiyyad negotiating to rent out the premises. On Sunday, Saiyyad arrived at the factory as usual, but his body was discovered around noon with stab wounds.
