OTWAY, OH — A Scioto County woman is facing serious charges after authorities uncovered a black market operation involving unapproved weight loss pills.
On Thursday, September 18, multiple Ohio law enforcement agencies, including the Southern Ohio Organized and Major Crimes Task Force, carried out search warrants across Scioto and Pike counties. The joint operation, which also involved the Ohio Board of Pharmacy, Scioto and Pike County Sheriff’s Offices, Waverly Police, and the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction, targeted the illegal sale of unregulated weight loss substances.
According to investigators, the pills — marketed as weight loss supplements — were illegally sourced from the black market, not approved by the FDA, and pose significant public health risks. Authorities believe the operation was profit-driven, disregarding the potential harm to unsuspecting consumers.
Haley Borders was arrested at her Otway residence on active warrants from Pike County. Law enforcement seized evidence at multiple locations tied to the investigation. Two K-9 units provided by the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction assisted in the search.
Authorities say the case is ongoing, with more charges expected. The seized substances are being analyzed, and further prosecution will be handled by the Pike and Scioto County Prosecutor’s Offices.
The task force emphasized the danger of purchasing unregulated drugs online or through non-medical sources, as their ingredients can be harmful or even fatal.
