Australian pop star Guy Sebastian has revealed he was arrested at gunpoint in Los Angeles due to a misunderstanding involving a towed car — a terrifying moment in an otherwise triumphant year.
Speaking on Nova’s Smallzy’s Surgery, the 43-year-old singer detailed the shocking experience that unfolded while he was staying at Olympian Ian Thorpe’s home in LA. After purchasing a car via eBay, Sebastian found it missing one day and reported it stolen. However, police told him it had been illegally towed — a widespread issue in LA that would eventually cost him $4,000.
Unbeknownst to him, the vehicle had been mistakenly flagged as stolen. Days later, while at a car wash, he was suddenly surrounded by officers with guns drawn, ordered to the ground, and handcuffed face-first into wet concrete. The chaos ended only after he was able to prove ownership of the vehicle.
Sebastian called the situation “utterly bewildering,” pointing to a known scam in Los Angeles involving improper towing that triggered the ordeal.
Despite this harrowing event, 2025 has been a standout year for the Australian Idol winner. He made his acting debut in the film Hindi Vindi and celebrated the emerging musical talent of his son Archie, whose song “Confess” has earned heartfelt praise. The track was written on the eve of his grandfather’s funeral, revealing a maturity beyond his years.
Having stepped down as a coach on The Voice Australia to focus on his music and new ventures, Sebastian is now building his own label — a move that highlights both his entrepreneurial drive and passion for nurturing new talent.
From near tragedy in LA to family milestones and creative reinvention, Guy Sebastian’s journey continues to inspire fans with its resilience and range.
