In a major operation against drug trafficking, the Government Railway Police (GRPS) successfully intercepted a large consignment of suspected cannabis at Guwahati railway station on Wednesday. The operation, carried out on platform number 1, resulted in the seizure of 65.5 kilograms of illicit cannabis and the apprehension of four individuals involved in its transportation.
The GRPS team, acting on credible intelligence, focused their efforts on Train No. 12423 DN New Delhi Rajdhani Express. During an intensive search, the officers discovered 44 packets containing the suspected contraband. The accused individuals had boarded the train at Dimapur Railway Station, intending to transport the drugs to New Delhi.
The individuals arrested in connection with the operation were identified as:
Nongthombam Landson Singh (22) – from Imphal East, Manipur
Raireikhan Tungshang (25) – from Ukhrul district, Manipur
James Kamei (25) – from Imphal East, Manipur
Pukhrambam Kanta Singh (24) – from Bishnupur district, Manipur
Legal procedures have been initiated against the arrested individuals. The successful interception of this large consignment of drugs has been hailed as a significant achievement in the ongoing fight against drug smuggling, especially through the railway network in the Northeast region.
Authorities are now investigating the broader network behind this operation to uncover other individuals and organizations involved in the trafficking.
