In a swift operation, Sarabha Nagar police arrested Gurwinder Singh Jinda, a habitual offender from Bhanohad village, for robbing a 70-year-old food outlet owner on Club Road, Ludhiana. The accused, identified as a drug addict, has four prior cases of theft and snatching registered against him.
According to the police, the incident took place on Saturday afternoon when the victim, Gurvir Singh of New Rajguru Nagar, was sitting outside his food outlet. The accused approached him on a bike and struck up a casual conversation.
“The man first asked about my shop and then admired my gold ring, saying he wanted a similar one for a wedding. He asked to see the ring, and as soon as I showed it, he snatched it—along with my mobile phone—and fled on his bike,” recalled Gurvir Singh.
Following the complaint, Head Constable Sukhwinder Singh, the investigating officer, said the police reviewed CCTV footage from the area. The accused’s motorcycle was captured near the scene, leading to his immediate arrest.
During interrogation, Gurwinder Singh confessed that he committed the crime to fund his drug addiction. Police recovered the stolen gold ring, the mobile phone, and three other stolen mobiles, along with the motorcycle used in the theft.
A case has been registered under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Sections 304 (snatching) and 317(2) (dishonestly receiving stolen property).
Investigations also revealed Gurwinder’s long criminal history, with four previous cases—three under Ludhiana Rural and one under Ludhiana Commissionerate jurisdiction.
