In a chilling crime that has shocked Bengaluru, police arrested Gurumurthy and Gopalakrishna for the kidnapping and murder of 13-year-old Nishchith, a Class 8 student at Christ School.
The incident began on Wednesday evening when Nishchith failed to return home from tuition in Shantiniketan Layout. His father, a college professor, filed a missing person report at Hulimavu Police Station. Hours later, the family received a ransom call demanding Rs5 lakh, even though police believe the boy had already been murdered by then.
On Thursday evening, police found Nishchith’s burnt body near the Bannerghatta forest, confirming the worst fears.
Late that night, the suspects were located near Kaggalipura Road. When Hulimavu Inspector Kumaraswamy and PSI Aravind Kumar attempted an arrest, the accused attacked with lethal weapons. After a warning shot failed to stop them, the police fired in self-defense, injuring both in the legs.
Both men were taken to Jayanagar Government Hospital and later shifted to Victoria Hospital. Gurumurthy, a former spare driver at the victim’s home, is believed to be the mastermind. Police say he used his familiarity with the family to carry out the crime.
Investigations are ongoing into the motive and whether more people are involved in this brutal act.
