In a landmark judgment, Gurucharan Behera, a 32-year-old resident of Bachhala village, was sentenced to life imprisonment by the Jajpur District and Sessions Court in Odisha for the murder of his father five years ago. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 20,000, with an additional six-month sentence if the fine remains unpaid.
Public Prosecutor Samarendra Das revealed that the verdict was delivered after thorough examination of 17 witnesses and 18 crucial documents during the trial. The incident occurred on the night of September 29, 2020, triggered by a family dispute.
Following the complaint filed by the elder son of the deceased, police arrested Behera and brought him to justice.
