The Mehatpur police have arrested Gurjit Singh, a youth from Sirsarri village in Dharamkot, Moga, on charges of kidnapping a minor girl.
According to the complaint filed by Harmesh Singh, a resident of Beetlan village, Gurjit allegedly lured his minor daughter under the pretext of marriage and took her away without consent.
Authorities registered a case against Gurjit Singh under relevant sections of the law protecting minors. Police are currently investigating the matter to trace the minor and determine whether any accomplices were involved in the abduction.
Senior police officials warned that such acts are treated as serious offenses under child protection laws and that stern action would be taken against the accused.
