by Ananya Mehta

In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking, Kullu Police arrested two individuals from Haryana and seized 58 grams of heroin (Chitta) from their possession. The arrest took place at 16 Mile on the Kullu-Manali National Highway, a known transit route in the Manali subdivision.

Kullu SP Kathikeyan Gokulachandran confirmed that the arrests were made by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) during a routine vehicle inspection. The team intercepted a Honda Amaze, and upon searching the vehicle, discovered the heroin concealed inside.

The accused were identified as:

Gurdeep Kumar (28), resident of Laha village

Happy (35), resident of Lakhnoura village
Both belong to Naraingarh tehsil in Ambala, Haryana.

They were booked under Sections 21, 25, and 29 of the NDPS Act. Police have launched a detailed investigation to uncover the broader drug supply network, including the source and intended distribution of the seized heroin.

This arrest follows closely on the heels of another shocking case in the region where a 14-year-old boy from Punjab was caught with 24.70 grams of heroin at the Prini green tax barrier in the same subdivision.

Officials warn of an alarming rise in synthetic drug use in Kullu Valley, which was historically known for charas (cannabis resin) production but is now facing growing infiltration of synthetic narcotics like heroin into local communities.

Law enforcement has ramped up surveillance and vowed zero tolerance toward traffickers targeting Himachal’s youth.
