Gulfport Pair Arrested for Shoplifting and Drug Possession

Champagne Burnett and Tanisha Kennedy face charges after stealing merchandise and possessing controlled substances

Gulfport, MS – Champagne Azizi Burnett, 26, and Tanisha Fleecia Kennedy, 43, were arrested on December 18th, 2024, in connection with shoplifting and drug possession in Gulfport.

According to the Gulfport Police Department, officers received a shoplifting report around 8:47 p.m. from a business located in the 9300 block of Highway 49. The two suspects were apprehended after they exited the store, found to have $1,062.99 worth of concealed merchandise.

Further investigation revealed that Burnett was also wanted on two felony warrants for shoplifting from prior incidents. While being transported, Kennedy was found to have hidden a controlled substance under her shirt and attempted to discard it during the transport.

Both suspects were taken to the Harrison County Adult Detention Center, where they are being held. Burnett faces one count of shoplifting, and Kennedy faces one count of shoplifting and one count of possession of a controlled substance. Both are awaiting their respective hearings.
