In a shocking incident, Government Railway Police (GRP) constable Kulwinder Singh was arrested on Wednesday for stealing a woman’s purse aboard the Shalimar Express train. The train was en route from Jammu to Rajasthan when the theft occurred.

Kulwinder Singh, a senior constable posted at GRP Ludhiana and a resident of Rampura Phul, Bathinda, had reportedly gone missing from his assigned platform duty from 8 p.m. Tuesday to 8 a.m. Wednesday. He instead boarded the Shalimar Express, dressed in his police uniform.

The incident came to light when Kamal Yadav, a passenger, reported that his wife’s purse had gone missing while they were asleep. Upon raising an alarm, other passengers helped apprehend the constable. GRP DSP Tejpal Singh and SHO Palwinder Singh confirmed Singh was caught red-handed and handed over to Rajpura GRP personnel, who later transferred him to Ludhiana.

Kulwinder Singh had secured his position in the police force on compassionate grounds after the death of his father. Legal proceedings are now underway against him.
