MANCHESTER, N.H. — Two Manchester men are in custody following a months-long investigation into a string of e-bike and scooter thefts that began with a dramatic early-morning police chase in April.
The case opened when Exeter police responded to an alarm at a local business and discovered a broken window along with a pickup truck attempting to flee the scene. Officers pursued the vehicle briefly, during which the suspects were seen throwing stolen e-bikes and scooters from the back of the truck to evade capture.
Although the suspects initially got away, investigators tracked them down over the next two months.
The first suspect, Gregory Scott Hicks, was arrested nearly two weeks ago while already being held at the Cheshire County Jail in connection with an unrelated case.
On Monday, Manchester police apprehended the second suspect, Craig Proulx, 51, who is now also facing burglary charges.
Detective Michael O’Connor of the Exeter Police Department praised the responding officers: “It’s certainly not something you see every day. Our officers stayed just close enough to gather the information needed without risking public safety.”
Proulx is scheduled to be arraigned on Wednesday.
