After 13 years on the run, Govind Kumar Harak Choudhary, 34, was arrested by the crime branch in Delhi for the brutal murder of his brother-in-law, Sureshkumar Surya Narayan Choudhary, in 2012.

The shocking murder occurred on May 28, 2012, at a rented apartment in Navghar, Bhayander East, where the victim, 35, was strangled with an iron wire. The body showed multiple injuries, including severe mutilation of his private parts. His mouth was gagged with adhesive tape, and there were marks of assault on his head, face, chest, abdomen, and hands from an iron pestle and cutter knife.

Initial investigations by Mira Bhayander-Vasai Virar (MBVV) police revealed that the victim and the accused were brothers-in-law, as their wives were sisters from Bihar. Govind Kumar had disappeared the same night, raising suspicions. Despite extensive searches and phone surveillance, the accused remained untraceable for over a decade.

The breakthrough came when the crime branch, led by Inspector Pramod Badhak, monitored the phone activities of Govind’s relatives and noticed frequent calls from Delhi. Tracing the SIM card, they discovered Govind had been living and working for a rice vendor in Naya Bazaar, Delhi.

On Sunday, a crime branch team arrested Govind in Delhi and brought him back to Mumbai. During interrogation, Govind admitted he suspected his brother-in-law of having an affair with his wife, which led to a confrontation and the fatal attack.

Govind has been handed over to Navghar police for further investigation.
