Govandi Police have cracked a major cash theft case involving Rs45 lakh and arrested two suspects, Nitesh Ram Vilas Mahto and Deepakkumar Ram Vilas Mahto. Authorities recovered Rs36.35 lakh from the duo during the investigation.
On the night of September 19, complainant Tejprakash Dangi of Bhakti Park, Wadala, entrusted a bag containing Rs45 lakh in cash to his employees — driver Niteshkumar Mahto and Rahulkumar Mahto. The accused allegedly absconded with the money without consent, reportedly acting in collusion with dishonest intent.
An FIR was registered at Govandi Police Station under sections 306, 316(4), 316(5), and 3(5) of the Bharatiy Nyay Sanhita (BNS) Act. Due to the significant amount involved and the accused’s origins in remote Bihar regions, police launched a swift and coordinated search operation.
Led by DCP Zone 6, Sameer Shaikh, police teams were dispatched across Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, and Bihar. After six days of surveillance and pursuit, the accused were located near Samastipur, Bihar. The suspects were apprehended and brought back to Mumbai.
Following intense interrogation, police recovered ₹36,35,600 of the stolen cash. The investigation continues to trace the remaining amount and identify any additional accomplices.
