NEWCASTLE, UK – Gordon Glass, 43, has been sentenced to two years in prison after a court heard of his abusive and controlling behavior towards his partner over the course of their relationship. Glass began a relationship with the woman in June 2023, initially showing no signs of abuse. However, by May 2024, his behavior became increasingly controlling.
Prosecutor Ellen Wright revealed that while Glass worked away in Preston during the week, he demanded proof of his partner’s whereabouts, requesting photos of her with specific gestures, like holding up five fingers to show she was home. He also required her to send timestamped pictures during her work breaks, constantly texting her to ensure she wasn’t in contact with others.
Glass went further by isolating his partner, insisting she spend all her time with him during weekends, restricting her ability to see friends or even book personal appointments. She also allowed him to track her phone out of fear. In one incident, he demanded a photo of a baby she was visiting, arguing that the baby appeared younger than she had described, leading to an argument.
The court heard that Glass frequently monitored his partner’s social media accounts and demanded to know who she was messaging and what she was saying. His behavior escalated, leaving the victim living in constant fear for her safety and well-being.
Glass was sentenced at Newcastle Crown Court for controlling and coercive behavior, a crime under the Domestic Abuse Act. His actions were recognized as causing significant emotional harm, and he was sentenced to two years in prison.
