BANGKOK, 9th January 2025 — Wang Xing, a mainland Chinese actor, was rescued from a scam operation in Myanmar and safely returned to Bangkok on 7th January 2025. The actor had been abducted and held in a scam company that exploited victims, including other Chinese nationals.
Despite circulating social media claims of a 2 million RMB ransom for his release, insiders have refuted these reports, claiming that public outcry prompted the management of the operation to release Wang voluntarily. Authorities later revealed that the mastermind behind the operation, a man known as “Golden Tiger” from Guangdong, was arrested alongside his associate, Jin Can, who had been responsible for Wang’s abduction.
Thai authorities worked with local contacts in Myanmar to execute the rescue operation, which involved identifying two locations where victims were held. At one site, authorities found ten Chinese nationals, and at another, they discovered fifty. Wang was rescued from the second location, where law enforcement successfully dismantled the operation.
In light of this incident, Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra stressed the importance of strengthening Thailand’s legal framework to prevent such trafficking activities and protect foreign nationals within the country. Authorities have also pledged to investigate any involvement of Thai citizens in this case.
