LYONS, Ore. – A Lyons automotive shop owner has been arrested following allegations of fraud involving more than $10,000 for restoration work that was never completed. Linn County Sheriff’s deputies took Godofredo Quiroz, 58, of Jefferson, into custody on May 2 after an investigation revealed that he allegedly defrauded a customer in a car restoration scam.
The investigation began in mid-April when deputies received a report of a missing 1955 Ford Thunderbird, which was supposed to be under restoration at Quiroz’s business, Canyon Auto Service. The victim had purchased the vehicle in 2023 from a third party, who had initiated restoration at the shop before selling it to the new owner.
According to authorities, Quiroz, who was responsible for restoring the vehicle, no longer had the Thunderbird in his possession. However, despite not having the car, he continued to bill the victim for parts and labor. In total, the victim paid more than $10,000, assuming the restoration was in progress. The alleged scam was uncovered when Quiroz requested a final payment but failed to deliver the restored vehicle.
Following the investigation, Quiroz was arrested and transported to Linn County Jail, where he faces charges of first-degree theft and second-degree forgery.
