A 34-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly murdering his younger brother in Odisha’s Gajapati district following a domestic dispute.
Police identified the accused as Gobinda Mallick, a labourer, and the deceased as Lubi Mallick (32), an auto-rickshaw driver and father of four. The incident occurred on Sunday night at Karanjakua village under Mohana police limits.
According to police officials, Lubi had reportedly consumed liquor and was quarrelling with his wife, Rajani Mallick, when Gobinda intervened after hearing the commotion. This led to a heated argument between the two brothers.
During the altercation, Gobinda allegedly attacked Lubi with an axe, killing him on the spot.
Based on a complaint filed by Rajani Mallick, police registered a murder case and arrested the accused on Tuesday. The axe used in the crime has been seized as evidence. Further investigation is underway.
