The Goa Tourism Department has taken strict action against a beach shack at Arambol after one of its employees was involved in a brutal murder. The department ordered the demolition of the shack and revoked its license, following the fatal stabbing of 37-year-old Amar Bandekar by three of the shack’s employees. The owner, Manuel Espritaosanto Fernandes, has also been fined Rs 25 lakh for violations.
The incident occurred when Bandekar objected to illegal tables being placed on the beach by the shack. In retaliation, the employees allegedly attacked him, leading to his death. The Mandrem Police arrested three employees in connection with the murder.
In response to the crime, the Goa Tourism Department found that Fernandes had violated the Goa State Shack Policy by subletting the shack to another individual. As a result, the department not only canceled the shack’s license but also imposed a hefty fine and forfeited the security deposit paid by Fernandes.
Fernandes, who has been permanently blacklisted from future shack allotments, faces further consequences if the shack is not demolished within seven days. If he fails to comply, the department will handle the demolition and recover costs from him.
The Goa Tourism Department emphasized its commitment to enforcing strict regulations and maintaining transparency to preserve the integrity of the state’s tourism sector.
