In a sweeping 24-hour crackdown, Manipur Police and CRPF units seized drugs worth Rs18 crore, arrested a KCP militant, and recovered a cache of arms and ammunition from multiple districts across the state.
The largest haul occurred at Tupul bridge, where a vehicle traveling from Churachandpur to Kangpokpi was intercepted. A total of 196 soap cases containing 2.193 kg of suspected heroin/brown sugar were found hidden inside the vehicle. The street value of the seized drugs is estimated at ₹18 crore.
The two occupants of the car were Ginminlen Haokip (24) from Kangpokpi and Holminlen Khongsal (30) from Chandel — a district that shares an unfenced border with Myanmar. Both were arrested on the spot.
In a separate operation at the Mao police check post in Senapati district, two individuals — Ajmir Sarif (19) and Iliyas Ali Shah, both residents of Thoubal — were caught with 22 kg of Ganja worth Rs2.18 lakh.
Additionally, police apprehended Shyamchand Singh (38), a member of the banned Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP-People’s War Group), from the Lamphel Super Market area in Imphal West. He was reportedly involved in extortion activities targeting residents of Bishnupur and Thoubal districts.
Meanwhile, arms and ammunition were recovered from different parts of Bishnupur and Kangpokpi districts, including:
1 AK-56 rifle
1 .303 rifle
1 .303 Light Machine Gun (LMG)
1 double-barrel gun
2 single-barrel guns
Authorities say further investigations are underway to uncover deeper links between the drug trade, militant activity, and cross-border smuggling networks.
