In a major anti-drug operation, the Anti-Narcotic Cell (ANC) of Thane Police arrested a man from Hyderabad for allegedly possessing 242 grams of Mephedrone (MD) valued at over Rs48 lakh. The accused, identified as Ghewaram Patel, 21, originally hails from Rajasthan.
The arrest comes as part of a city-wide crackdown against narcotics, following strict directives from senior officials. Acting on a tip-off received by police constable Ajay Sakpal, ANC officials laid a trap in Gaimukh, Ghodbunder Road, Thane, where they intercepted Patel and allegedly found the MD powder in his possession.
Following the seizure, an FIR was registered under the NDPS Act, and Patel was remanded to police custody after being produced in court. Authorities are currently probing the source of the drugs and the intended recipients. Initial suspicions point to the involvement of an interstate drug trafficking network.
Police have intensified surveillance and are determined to trace the supply chain and dismantle the network involved.
