EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14/CBS4) — A disturbing video shared on social media has led to the arrest of 68-year-old Gerald Gallegos, who is now facing felony charges for animal cruelty.
The footage shows Gallegos hitting a dog multiple times before grabbing it by the collar and swinging it briefly in the air. The incident quickly gained attention online, prompting the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office to launch an investigation.
Detectives were able to identify Gallegos from the video and placed him under arrest. This marks his third felony offense.
“Animal cruelty will not be tolerated in our community,” said Sheriff Oscar Ugarte. “We will continue to act swiftly when animals are harmed and hold offenders accountable.”
Gallegos was booked into the El Paso County Downtown Detention Facility with bond set at $35,000. He faces charges of cruelty to non-livestock animals, a felony under Texas law.
