Georgia four-star safety commit Chace Calicut has been arrested following a violent driving incident, FOX26 reports. Calicut, 17, along with Isaiah Phillip, 17, both face two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, according to court documents.
The incident occurred on July 6 in Houston and involved two other teens known to the accused. Reports indicate that Calicut’s vehicle pulled up behind the victims’ car, abruptly sped ahead, and then slammed on the brakes, forcing the other vehicle to take evasive action.
Court documents describe how Calicut continued to drive erratically around the other vehicle. At one point, Phillip was allegedly seen pointing a handgun from Calicut’s car. The victims managed to escape by making a U-turn but then heard several gunshots fired from Calicut’s vehicle, witnessed by a friend driving behind them.
Calicut, a standout high school player at Galena Park North Shore in Texas, is a highly-ranked recruit in the 2026 class. He committed to Georgia over finalists Michigan and Texas, making a significant recruiting win for Georgia’s head coach Kirby Smart.
Georgia’s 2026 class is currently ranked No. 2 nationally by Rivals, highlighted by several top prospects including five-star quarterback Jared Curtis.
The legal proceedings against Calicut and Phillip are ongoing.
