STUART, Va. — A Patrick County man is being held without bond after allegedly carrying out a brutal assault on a woman during an incident on August 23.

According to Sheriff Dan Smith, 42-year-old George Kevin Rucker of 174 Developmental Drive in Stuart was arrested on August 25. He is facing serious charges including Attempted Murder, Abduction, Malicious Wounding, Strangulation, and Domestic Assault and Battery.

A criminal complaint filed by Investigator Tennille Jessup states that Rucker repeatedly threatened to kill the woman, then beat her with a hammer and strangled her while stopping her from leaving the residence.

The victim, who was in a relationship with Rucker, suffered severe injuries and received medical treatment at Sovah Health – Martinsville.

“We are fortunate that this didn’t manifest into a homicide,” said Sheriff Smith.

Rucker remains in custody at the Patrick County Jail, with no bond set at this time.
