MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) — A Memphis man is behind bars following a dramatic and dangerous altercation at a local gas station. Geno Bell has been arrested and charged with multiple felonies including aggravated assault, aggravated arson, evading arrest, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
At around 12:22 a.m. Tuesday, officers were dispatched to the gas station at 1372 S Elvis Presley Boulevard after reports of arson and an assault in progress. When police arrived, they observed a group of individuals in a heated argument. Witnesses say Bell lit an object on fire and hurled it toward the crowd.
One victim told officers that Bell had also thrown a flaming object directly at a fuel pump, raising the risk of a massive explosion. Bell then attempted to flee on foot across Elvis Presley Boulevard.
During the chase, Bell reportedly brandished a firearm at officers, prompting a standoff. He eventually surrendered and was taken into custody without further incident.
Another victim stated Bell threw two incendiary objects at him during the confrontation — one ignited, and the other failed to. Thankfully, no injuries were reported.
Bell is currently being held on a $150,000 bond as the investigation continues.
