Gelawej Mohammadi-Arshad Arrested Again to Serve 4-Month Sentence

Kurdish woman transferred to Urmia Prison after August 2024 arrest

Gelawej Mohammadi-Arshad, a Kurdish woman from Mahabad, was arrested on January 12, 2025, to serve a four-month sentence following her conviction in August 2024. She was summoned to the Court of Execution of Sentences Branch in Mahabad before being transferred to the women’s ward of Urmia Central Prison.

According to reports from Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Mohammadi-Arshad was sentenced by Branch 1 of the Islamic Revolutionary Court in Mahabad, led by Judge Sajjad Dosti, on charges of “propaganda against the state.”

Previously, on August 14, 2024, Mohammadi-Arshad was arrested by Iranian intelligence forces while returning from work in Mahabad. After 14 days in custody, she was released on temporary bail of 700 million tomans, pending further legal proceedings. Now, she has been ordered to serve her sentence in prison.
