The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the State Crime Branch on Monday arrested a Bihar native from Delhi for allegedly duping job aspirants of approximately Rs3.5 crore in 2023.
The accused, Gautam Kumar (45), hails from Dumaria Parbatta village in Bihar’s Khagaria district. Employed in a private company in Delhi, Kumar was apprehended from the Rohini area of the national capital.
Police stated that Kumar was part of a larger interstate racket. Three of his associates — Dharampal Singh, Amit Singh, and Jairam Tiwari — had already been arrested by the EOW in 2023.
The gang operated through fake advertisements in Odisha newspapers, luring job seekers with promises of government employment. They created a fraudulent website, www.grks.org
, under the name Gramin Rojgar Kalyan Sansthan (GRKS), projecting it as a government organization. Advertisements were published in multiple languages across 10 states, inviting applications for positions like district and block coordinators, computer operators, and block surveyors, along with attractive remuneration.
Applicants were required to pay fees — Rs170 for SC/ST candidates and Rs320 for general category aspirants — to apply online. Despite conducting examinations, no appointments were ever made. Investigations revealed that the gang misappropriated Rs3.48 crore from application fees.
Kumar, who had been on the run for two years, was booked under a non-bailable warrant. He allegedly posed as a skill developer, claiming he would train recruits. Further inquiry showed that Kumar siphoned Rs69.2 lakh from the GRKS account through his two companies and a trust for personal use.
SP of EOW, Dilip Tripathy, confirmed that the investigation is ongoing to identify any additional associates involved in the scam.
